WCF responds to Haiti earthquake emergency

On Tuesday January 12 at 12:53 p.m. a catastrophic earthquake struck the Caribbean country of Haiti resulting in an estimated 250,000 fatalities.  Tens of thousands of Haitians have been injured, countless numbers are now homeless, and an estimated one million children have been left orphaned. With increasingly limited access to food, drinkable water, and medical care, the potential for the spread of infectious diseases could push the death toll even higher.

The need is great, but thanks to our compassionate donors WCF is doing its part to help meet the imminent needs of the suffering people in Haiti. One of our programmes, a main relief agency in the Jilmani region, was among the first responders to the crisis. We are helping provide urgently needed supplies to one of the local emergency hospitals. Items such as nutritious fortified meals, medical supplies, and thermal blankets to ward off the chilly Haitian nights are just some of the essential needs being provided through the kind giving of our faithful donors.

The emergency is not over. The need is still very dire, but WCF is committed to help meet the challenge in whatever ways we can. With the ongoing support of our generous donors, we will continue to help provide the vital food, water, and medical relief to help relieve the suffering of the precious children of Haiti as they try to recover from this devastating crisis.
